Former vice president for physical planning and operations at Lafayette, Donald Upton Noblett, 84, of Easton, died Oct. 10, and a memorial service was held Oct. 22 at College Hill Presbyterian Church. During his 34 years at the College, he held numerous leadership positions.
Noblett joined Lafayette in 1958 as director of admissions. He was later appointed director
of development and then director of college planning. He served as director of physical planning and operations from 1968 to 1971, when he was named vice president.
Noblett oversaw the construction of major new buildings including Farinon College Center, Williams Center for the Arts, and Allan P. Kirby Field House. He was active in many community organizations including serving as commissioner for Minsi Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America; campaign chair, United Way of Northampton and Warren Counties; and elder of College Hill Presbyterian Church.
Noblett and his wife, Vivian, endowed a fund to support two Lafayette student awards. The Donald U. Noblett Prize in Chemical Engineering and Vivian B. Noblett Prize in Studio Art were first presented in 1994.
