Completion of Oakhurst, a “stick and shingle” style granite mansion designed by McKim, Mead & White for John Eyerman, Class of 1888, mineralogy lecturer at Lafayette; son John Eyerman ’20.

1914

Francis G. McKelvy purchases Oakhurst; serves on Lafayette’s Board of Trustees from 1933-1952

Oakhurst gardens redesigned by Marian Coffin, a pioneer female landscape architect who creates a naturalistic blend of shrub and perennial borders

1960

Lafayette acquires Oakhurst from McKelvy’s heirs

1962

Renamed McKelvy House, the mansion houses the College Scholars Society (later became known as McKelvy Scholars)

1974

James P. Crawford, the late professor of mathematics, completes seven years as resident faculty adviser

1993-96

Creation of McKelvy Alumni Association and McKelvy Papers, a journal of scholars’ research articles

New roof installed
