CCS Overview

  • FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR
  • WRITING — three courses in addition to First-Year Seminar that are designated as writing courses, with at least one in the chosen major and one outside of the chosen major
  • COMPLETION OF A COURSE IN EACH AREA — humanities, natural sciences (with lab), and social sciences; and two courses in a division that that does not include the major: courses may be selected from engineering and natural sciences including those designated as Science and Technology in a Social Context
  • QUANTITATIVE REASONING—a course in which students learn to use mathematical methods to solve problems, represent and interpret quantitative information, and critically analyze mathematical results
  • GLOBAL AND MULTICULTURALISM—two courses that examine the structure of identity, diversity, and differences in domestic and global contexts
  • VALUES—a course in which students construct and evaluate answers to questions of moral and political concern
  • SECOND LANGUAGE—completion of a year of language study to accomplish at least elementary proficiency
