THE BROTHERS of Delta Kappa Epsilon meet regularly in study halls with faculty adviser Richard Shupp ’67, visiting instructor of foreign languages and literatures, and they gathered donations to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Those are just a few of the initiatives that resulted from the group’s fall leadership conference.
The fraternity holds leadership conferences before fall and spring semesters. This fall, the topic was improving academic performance and increasing community involvement.
“We also wanted to promote more commitment to our fraternity’s values and recruit quality members who will uphold and work toward these standards,” says chapter president Andrew O’Brien ’13, a geology major.
O’Brien says members are enthusiastic about the study halls. Their goal is to exceed the all-male GPA each semester.
The conferences also provide experience with strategic planning. DKE alumni taught students how to turn strategic objectives into annual goals with action steps.
Attendees included all members, alumni house association president Michael De Lisi ’03, treasurer Peter Carlson ’02, chapter adviser Brent Souders ’11, academic adviser Scott Harris ’95 via teleconference, Mark Fedorov ’91, Jared Piette ’12, and John Terembula ’94, as well as Shupp and Stuart Umberger, director of fraternity and sorority life.
