The National Survey of Student Engagement results can indicate the degree of academic challenge students perceive as well as their overall perceptions of the campus learning environment. Highlights from the 2012 report:
88% of first-year students feel Lafayette places substantial emphasis on academics
61% of first-year students frequently discuss readings or ideas from coursework outside of class
By senior year, 78% of students have participated in some form of practicum, internship, field experience, co-op, or clinical assignment, compared to 50% nationally
By senior year, 53% of students have studied abroad, well above the 15% nationally
By senior year, 79% have participated in community service or volunteer work, compared to 60% nationally
