New Academic Merit Scholarship Launched
Beginning with the Class of 2018, the most highly qualified applicants to Lafayette may have the chance to be awarded the Marquis Fellowship, a merit-based award valued at $40,000 per year. Approximately 20 fellowships are offered each year.
About 100 finalists are invited to campus in February and March to participate in a selection process led by representatives of the Lafayette community—faculty, alumni, students, and administrators. Activities include a small group assignment and presentation, followed by a personal interview with faculty, alumni, and students.
Marquis Fellows are notified about their selection in mid-March along with their admission to the College. Those not selected for fellowships will be given primary consideration for the Marquis Scholarship, valued at $24,000 a year.
Inspired by the ideals for which the Marquis de Lafayette stood, fellows display outstanding ability to contribute to the Lafayette community based on their interest in global citizenship, scholarly pursuits, leadership, and demonstrated and genuine concern for others.
The award is renewable for four years and requires a 3.00 GPA or higher. Fellows whose need exceeds $40,000 per year receive a need-based award up to demonstrated need. The fellowship also includes a scholarship of up to $4,000 for one faculty-led, off-campus course during interim session.
