U.S. Poet Laureate Trethewey Gives Reading
Now in her second term as the 19th poet laureate of the United States, Natasha Trethewey presented the 2014 John L Hatfield ’67 Lecture on March 12.
She is the author of Native Guard (2006), which won a Pulitzer Prize. Her other collections include Domestic Work (2000), Bellocq’s Ophelia (2002), and most recently, Thrall (2012). Her signature project is “Where Poetry Lives,” a feature on PBS NewsHour Poetry Series.
A native of Gulfport, Miss., she is the Robert W. Woodruff Professor of English and Creative Writing at Emory University.
Students had the opportunity to meet her during a reception as part of the event, hosted by Friends of Skillman Library.
