In December, Lafayette named John Garrett as its 28th head football coach. As offensive coordinator of the Richmond University Spiders, Garrett presided over a high-octane passing machine that Leopard fans hope he brings to Fisher Stadium.
Gridiron fans know Garrett’s brother Jason is head coach of the NFL Dallas Cowboys. Here are some facts about the new boss you might not know.
- He was born in Danville, Pa. His father, Jim, was a coach at nearby Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa. Jim spent 38 years as a scout in the NFL.
- Coach Garrett’s father had his first coaching job at Lehigh in 1958.
- Coach Garrett is one of eight children (in order): Jim, Jane, Jennifer, Janine, Jill, John, Jason, Judd.
- He and his wife, Honor, have four children (John Jr., Honor, Olivia, and Caroline).
- Coach Garrett attended two Ivy League schools. He originally attended Columbia before transferring and graduating from Princeton in 1988.
- Coach Garrett shares a birthday with Jon Bon Jovi (March 2), a Garden State native. New Jersey is where Coach Garrett spent much of his early life.

- Stranded on a desert island with only one thing to eat, Coach Garrett would prefer spaghetti and meatballs.
