THE MOCK TRIAL TEAM tied for first place at the American Mock Trial Association opening round championships, a major regional competition hosted by Miami University, and in doing so qualified to participate in the 48-team field at the association’s national tourney.
“To be in a room full of intelligent, well-spoken people is a privilege,” says team co-president Margi Schierberl ’10, a philosophy major. She was one of only two participants to win both an outstanding witness award and an outstanding attorney award in the regional competition, which included Penn, Johns Hopkins, Fordham, Richmond, and Vanderbilt, among other schools.
Also on the team that advanced to the nationals were co-president Jason Pang ’10 (government and law/philosophy), Carolyn Fast ’10 (English), and four first-year students, Sarah Brachfeld, Alex Caballero, Xiao Cui, and Sam Griffith.
