Hugh Harris Honored

EASTON’S City Council, Police Department, Fire Department, and Emergency Squad honored Hugh Harris, who retired June 30 after serving 31 years as the College’s director of public safety.

At its meeting May 8, council members praised Harris’ professionalism, collegiality, and effectiveness, as did Mayor Sal Panto, City Administrator Glenn Steckman, and Police Chief Carl Scalzo. Citing the strong and productive partnerships Harris forged with the police and fire departments, emergency squad, and other agencies, council adopted a resolution recognizing his contributions “to the greater good of the City of Easton.”

At the annual Easton Police Awards Ceremony May 15, police, fire, and emergency squad officials presented Harris with a plaque featuring the agencies’ insignia “in grateful appreciation for your outstanding service and devotion.”

Harris, whose elder son, Hugh Harris ’12, holds a B.S. in civil engineering, was awarded the College’s Gary A. Evans Administrative Prize at the pre-Commencement dinner May 24. The award is presented annually to an administrator or staff member who has provided a high level of service to the College, its alumni, or students over a substantial period of time.
