Steel bridge takes second

The Lafayette Steel Bridge team took second place at the National Student Steel Bridge Competition in May, beating more than 40 qualifying teams from North America that traveled to Iowa State University to flex their engineering know-how. Lafayette’s 32-member team employed just two builders for the construction of the 18-foot-long bridge in just over six minutes, all from the “shores” of a 13-foot mock river that could not be entered or crossed. This was their 13th consecutive appearance at the competition; Lafayette engineers have finished in the top 10 at nationals every year for the past decade.
