Richard Faas (left), professor emeritus of geology, died Sept. 19, and Art Gorman (above), associate professor of mathematics, died Dec. 16. The Lafayette faculty adopted memorial resolutions in November for Faas and in March for Gorman.

Faas earned his Ph.D. from Iowa State University and had a lifelong interest in sedimentary deposition. He came to Lafayette in 1964 and was head of the department from 1970 to 1989. He retired in 1996.

His wife, Dolores, expressed her thanks to the many alumni for their cards, calls, and attendance at his memorial service. She wrote: β€œHe often spoke of the gratitude he felt for all that he learned from his students.”

A memorial service was held for Gorman on March 8 in Colton Chapel. Having earned his Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University, he had a special interest in differential equations and mathematical models. Gorman taught at Lafayette for 32 years.
