Sherryta Freeman, new director of athletics, has a five-point game plan for the College’s 23-sport Division I program.
1. Establish a championship, winning culture. “We will not shy away from our commitment to providing championship experiences for student-athletes.
2. Academic excellence. “Athletes are students first.”
3. Create a positive student-athlete experience.
4. Integrate athletic programs with campus.
5. Maintain the highest level of integrity.
Freeman was senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator at University of Pennsylvania.
- She spent more than 15 years as a senior-level administrator at Temple, Penn, and Dartmouth.
- She replaces Bruce McCutcheon, who retired after 16 years.
- She graduated from Dartmouth in 2001 with an undergraduate degree in environmental studies and a minor in African and African American studies.
- She was a four-year varsity letter-winner in basketball and a member of two Ivy League championship teams that secured NCAA Tournament appearances in 1999 and 2000.
- She is a native of Hillside, N.J.
- She’s a fitness freak. “Whether it’s going for a run, a bike ride, or playing pickup basketball, I enjoy physical activity.”
- Growing up, she wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon.
- Michelle Obama is one of her role models.
