Three Students Are Awarded Fulbrights

Brian Carey ’11 was awarded a Fulbright Grant for research on developing a tool for calculating seismic risk in the Caribbean. He will work with the Disaster Risk Reduction Center in Jamaica and the Seismic Research Center in Trinidad and Tobago. Last fall, he led a Lafayette Engineers Without Borders team that designed a 5,900-gallon reinforced-concrete water-storage tank in El Convento, Honduras. Carey graduated with a B.S. in civil engineering and an A.B. in economics and business.

Mildred Gonzalez ’11 and Susan Grunewald ’11 were awarded Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships. Gonzalez (psychology and English) will teach English in Madrid. Grunewald (Russian and East European studies) will teach English at Ulyanovsk State Technical University in Ulyanovsk, Russia. She also received a Fulbright Critical Language Enhancement Award for intensive study of Russian.
