Four Student-Athlete Standouts

SmedleyLauren Smedley ’13 (right) was selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate soccer.

She volunteered with Caring With Compassion, Red Bank, N.J., and the mentoring program at Easton’s alternative school, and was a member of SAAC, a liaison between student-athletes and the NCAA. She backstopped Lafayette to a 9-5-2 overall record last season; the most wins since 2001. She is all-time leader in games started and minutes played for goalkeepers. A neuroscience graduate, she plans to obtain a doctorate of chiropractic.

Andrew Ruck ’13, a mechanical engineering graduate, was one of three outfielders to claim a spot on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District II First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He leads Lafayette with a .329 batting average on a team-high 53 base hits and three home runs.

Ana White ’14, midfielder for women’s lacrosse and a biology major, was named to the IWLCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team and the Patriot League All-Tournament team.

Rachel Pena ’14, a member of the track and field team, competed in May at the NCAA East Regional Championships at North Carolina A&T University, Greensboro, in the hammer throw. She threw a 179-foot mark, ranking 13th in her flight in the preliminary and 26th overall. An English major, she is third in school history in the hammer and fifth in the 20-pound weight.
