Volunteer Standouts

Each year, the Alumni Association honors outstanding alumni, alumni groups, faculty, and students who go beyond the call of duty through their volunteer efforts and philanthropic support for the College. Lafayette volunteers demonstrate their commitment by generously giving their time, talent, and treasure to support the educational experience of our students. Without the work of these dedicated individuals and groups, Lafayette would not be where it is today. Since it was not possible to honor the recipients in person last year due to the pandemic, the College held a virtual ceremony in April 2021 to honor the winners. You may view the recording of the event and read more about the nominees here.

Lafayette would like to acknowledge and congratulate the following individuals:

Joseph R. Godwin Jr. ’81

George Washington Kidd
Class of 1836 Award

Joseph R. Godwin Jr. ’81“I thrived at Lafayette because I was encouraged to build relationships throughout the campus with students, faculty, and alumni, a powerful tool that I continue to utilize. My career has flourished because of my ability to foster relationships, thanks to Lafayette. I truly appreciate the value that diverse people, working together towards a common goal, can bring to an opportunity.”

Laurie B. Samet ’79

Joseph E. Bell ’28 Award

Laurie B. Samet ’79“I have long been inspired by the Lafayette community’s love for and dedication to the College. I volunteer to honor those who came before me, to enjoy the fellowship of alumni spanning many decades, and to work together to pay it forward. We may be undergraduates for four years, but we are alumni forever . . . what a privilege!”

Heather Slugaski Finn ’09

Clifton P. Mayfield 1909 Award

Heather Slugaski Finn ’09“It has been an honor and privilege to be able to serve as an alumna volunteer for Lafayette. My time in college created lifelong, meaningful friendships that I will always treasure. I believe strongly in the importance of human connection and that’s why I enjoy volunteering to help alumni events come to fruition.”

Jennifer L. Klein ’98

Barry McCarty AAR of the Year Award

Jennifer L. Klein ’98“I loved being a Lafayette AAR interviewer because it provided a fantastic opportunity to stay connected to the College. I’ve met many inspiring students in New York City and worldwide who are as passionate about being part of the Lafayette College community as I am. It’s been an honor to be a Lafayette College ambassador for incoming students.”

Paula A. Roscioli ’87

Lois and Neil Gagnon Award

Paula A. Roscioli ’87“I have been very fortunate to have a career that inspires and fulfills me. In sharing my passion for the law with Lafayette students, I hope to inspire the next generation of aspiring lawyers to find their own rewarding careers and make a difference in the legal community.”

Kenneth D. Chavin ’83

Externship Commitment Award

Kenneth D. Chavin ’83“I secretly always hoped one of my three daughters would attend my alma mater. My research opportunities at Lafayette led me to pursue a Ph.D. in immunology and  an M.D. This is why I have committed to providing potential future physicians with the opportunity to participate in externships with residents, which enables them to observe transplant surgeries and dig into translational research.”

Samantha M. Chavin ’16

D.C. Chapter of the Year Award

Samantha M. Chavin ’16“When I moved to D.C., it was only natural to connect with fellow Lafayette alumni. In the years I have lived here, I’ve built new friendships with fellow classmates and have received incredible professional mentorship and support. It has been a privilege to build a robust D.C.-area alumni community as the chapter president. It’s also fulfilling to work with Jennifer Bognar (’16), Jeff Wheeler (’16), and Daniella Colón (’10) to ensure that all alumni are prioritized in our region. It is incredibly gratifying to create meaningful experiences for current students and fellow alumni.”
